Benny Landa, known as the father of digital offset color printing, developed the world’s first digital printing press. Landa then immersed himself in nanotechnology research and developed Nanographic Printing™ spawning a new category of commercial digital printing.
Challenge
I2D set out to translate Landa’s revolutionary technology into an equally visionary design. The goal was to redefine the identity of commercial printing presses. It was a rare opportunity to design a complete line of products from the ground up and create a design that seamlessly integrates Design, UI, and Engineering.
Strategy
The design strived for novelty and innovation in every single aspect of the product. The press has an unprecedented control area, a cockpit with a 10-foot touch screen. The novel UI enhances the entire printing experience and clearly differentiates the Landa Nanographic Printing Press from conventional systems.
Design
The large press is divided into separate volumes to reduce size perception. Glass is incorporated to identify the advanced digital technology components. The Cockpit is designed to provide an optimal work environment for the operator. Using the Landa-Touchscreen, complex work plans are clearly visualized and provide full control even from afar.
Outcome
The Landa Nanographic Printing™ Press has truly transformed the printing experience. It has made printing simpler, user-friendly and even somewhat magical. It received the prestigious Good Design award.
