Stratasys is the global leader in 3D printing technology. I2D has worked with Stratasys for more than a decade, focusing on the development of a distinct product line.

Challenge

The goal of the design process was to create a distinct brand identity and a comprehensive design language that were implemented on a range of different products. The design of the large systems had to target the office environment. In addition, we focused on cost reduction and simplifying manufacturing.

Design

To reduce the large visual impact of the system the new design splits the main volume into three vertical parts. The central transparent top cover provides visibility of the printing process from above and from the front. The horizontal handle is both functional and a prominent signature detail. The two side covers with a wedged cross-section are a distinct and recognizable feature of the design language. The side panels are symmetrical to reduce costs.

Outcome

The designs received international recognition and several prestigious awards, including the Red Dot Design Award and the Good Design Award. The Design Language is implemented on a range of new systems, including the J850, J8, J826. This demonstrates the enduring relevance of the Design Language, even after more than a decade since its inception.
