Sodastreamâ„¢ - Genesis

I2D designed the Pure, which repositioned Sodastream as a lifestyle and premium brand. Following the success of the Pure we designed the Genesis a more affordable model.

Challenge

The goal of the design of the Genesis was develop a low-cost product to appeal to cost-sensitive users while building on the new iconic identity developed for the Pure. To achieve the ambitious cost reduction the Genesis was designed to minimize the amount of parts and to maximize assembly efficiency.

Design

The design of the Genesis is restrained and iconic, further establishing the new design language that was developed for Sodastream. The two-part configuration makes the replacement of the gas cylinder user-friendly and allows for dishwasher cleaning. Color is used as a dominant attribute to reflect the sparkle of soda drinks.

Sustainability

The PURE’s positioning and appeal to more sophisticated users allowed SodaStream to shift their message from cost reduction to communicating health benefits and sustainability. The home soda machine is a perfect example of a product that facilitates behavior change and enables users to transition from disposables to reusables, offering the added benefit of improved quality.

Outcome

The Genesis became a huge market success and for many years it was SodaStream’s most popular soda machine with a dominant market share.
